You already know this: Artificial Intelligence is part of our everyday lives. Because of this, Christians exercise godly wisdom, discernment, prayer, and faith as we use AI.
We should also remember that we are called to represent God on earth. He wants Christians to demonstrate spiritual integrity in all we do.
“The one who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not trust in an idol
or swear by a false god.
They will receive blessing from the Lord
and vindication from God their Savior.” Psalm 24:4-5 (NIV).
How should Christians approach AI?
Ask yourself these questions:
ONE: Is AI a tool I use, or something I rely on too much? Excessive reliance on AI can makeit an unhealthy influence in our lives. Our reliance and trust should be in God. When in doubt about the help we receive from AI, we must pray and consult the Word of God for guidance.
Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV)
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
TWO: Does the help I receive from AI align with God’s wisdom? AI can provide quick answers, but they are not always wise. Proverbs 4:7 (NIV) says, “The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding.” As Christians, we need more than information; we need godly wisdom and understanding.
THREE: What is the source of what I hear and see? AI can generate words, images, voices, and videos that look real. But not everything that looks true is actually true. Sometimes it’s necessary to verify the origin of the information. The Bible says, “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:21, KJV).
FOUR: Is AI helping me love God and others? If technology makes us colder, more distracted, or less caring, something is wrong. Jesus said the greatest commandments are to love God and to love our neighbor (Matthew 22:37-39). Any tool we use should motivate us to love God and people and to remain in God’s love.
FIVE: Am I protecting my mind and heart? What we watch, read, and listen to shapes our actions. Proverbs 4:23 (AMP) says, “Watch over your heart with all diligence, for from it flow the springs of life.” The Hebrew word leb, used for heart, also refers to the mind. As Christians, we must be careful about what shapes our thoughts.
SIX: Am I using AI with honesty and integrity? whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord…” AI must never be used as an excuse to steal, lie, or deceive others. It should not be used to “scam” people. Remember, Jesus says the devil is the father of lies (John 8:44).
SEVEN: Am I obeying God? God alone is all-knowing, all-powerful, and unchanging. He sees the beginning and the end (Isaiah 46:10) and always knows what is best for us. AI can offeranswers and solutions that may be biased, but God gives truth. AI can provide information, but God gives wisdom. AI may predict what could happen, but God guides our steps.
For Christians, the most important question is not “What does AI recommend?” but “Am I obeying God?”
The safest place for any believer is to live in obedience to God. When we follow His ways, we can trust Him to guide, provide for, and protect us according to His purpose and plan for our lives, no matter the technology we use.
AI is not greater than God, not wiser than the Holy Spirit, and not more trustworthy than God’s Word. Keep this truth in your heart. See Psalm 119:11.
